Ainsi tout était fini. Je ne savais pas alors combien de choses étaient finies. Quand je regarde en arrière, du haut de la colline élevée de ma vieillesse, je vois encore les femmes et les enfants massacrés, couchés en tas et éparpillés tout au long du ravin tortueux, aussi clairement que je les avais vu avec les yeux de ma jeunesse. Et je vois que quelque chose d’autre est mort là, dans la boue ensanglantée, et a été enterré par la tourmente. Le rêve d’un peuple est mort ici. C’était un très beau rêve. Et moi, qui ai reçu une si grande vision dans ma jeunesse, vous me voyez maintenant, pauvre vieil homme pitoyable et qui n’a rien fait, car le cercle de la nation est brisé et dispersé.
